Department at a Glance: D. R. College, Golaghat, accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC), with ‘A’ grade was established in the year 1949. The department of Education is one of the most popular and oldest departments of this college. Considering as an indispensible part of higher education, the subject education was introduced in the D.R. College in the year of 1962. Professor Nripen Phukan was the pioneer teacher of the department. As Professor Nripen Phukan left the job for some other appointment, Professor Tarun Kr. Sarma, a renowned teacher of the state was appointed in that post. Department of Education is a full-fledged department with major courses introduced way back in 1974. Total enrolment of the student was very much encouraging from the very beginning. It is noteworthy to said that the student named Dipti Devi Phukan showed the brilliant result in the 1st batch of education major and now she is retired as a vice-principal of DCB Girls College. Since inception the subject was very popular among the students. It becomes more encouraging than earlier after implementation of TET and specially compulsion of B.Ed , D.El.Ed.for teachers. The department has been showing consistently good results till now. A good number of alumni of this department have been able to make its mark in different field. Specially, most of the students are now become the teacher in different district of Assam by qualifying TET examination. Some of them are also appointed in different colleges and B.Ed College also. Mrs. Dipti Dutta Bordoloi,Associate Prof. cum Ex- Head and present Vice-Principal( Academic), of this college and Mrs. Manisha Chaliha , Asstt. Prof., presently working in this department is the product of this college. We are always giving more weightage on teaching-learning processes. So, every year a number of students of our deptt. are admitted in PG courses in education in different universities of NE India and also some of them are qualified themselves NET and M.Phil examination also.
Different courses like psychological practical, practice teaching and theory classes are also conducted by the department in collaboration with other universities like KKHSOU, Distance Education under Dibrugarh University etc.
